welcome to goatwrrld

I used to use the internet to work out all kinds of stuff -- hence was born my alter-ego, goatgrrl. In the early 1990s, the goatgrrl careened wildly around the internet, taking advantage of the anonymity afforded by the online world to explore, inquire, confess and salivate. Untrammeled access to information -- all kinds of information -- and to a critical mass of people (all kinds of them, too) was a pretty intoxicating thing for a 30-something, sensible shoes-wearing, lady next door. I used the internet to test hypotheses, challenge theories, share secrets and misbehave -- all the things I was too chicken to do in real life.

What a playground! It was grand.

A little over ten years later I find myself back on-line regularly. Past forty and now more settled in my real-life skin, I use the internet to gather and share more mundane kinds of information -- primarily about book collecting and local history. So was hatched the original goatwrrld, sub-site to another website I maintain about the BC Penitentiary cemetery.

My early experiences online taught me a lesson which proved fundamental to my future happiness: speaking the truth about the most confounding aspects of our lives is generally well worth the risk. I now make it my practice to live this way in the real world, and that -- to paraphrase Robert Frost -- has made all the difference. This means I used to be a wildchild online and a geeky little bookworm in real life. Now I'm an opinionated middle-aged woman in real life and a geeky little bookworm online. Oh well.
